Ed Grossi Owner

Eddie and family have been in Marin and Sonoma Counties for a few generations, farming the home ranch and tending to his 50 acre parcel which includes the nursery and pinot noir vineyards. Possessing an encyclopedic memory, mechanical aptitude, and friendly nature, Eddie enjoys working with people from all walks of life. He and his wife Susie Sweet built the nursery from scratch, beginning in the year 2000; brokering, growing, and delivering plants for projects throughout the Bay Area. He is currently assigned to special projects geared toward whatever is at the top of the list, meaning, he is fixing whatever just broke, or is working on yet another creative endeavor.

Joe is a landscape architect and business manager with more than 35 years of experience in the industry. He loves a challenge and in addition to managing the business, has been working on expanding the nursery’s specimen grade inventory, improving quality, and developing new sources for material. Several times a year he visits the growers’ fields to hand-select trees for our clients. With experience ranging across many disciplines, he has worked with Eddie to enhance the facilities, designing and installing a 50kWh solar array to power the nursery, expanding production capabilities, and developing strategies for improving our ability to deliver the goods.

Bruce Hope Operations/Production Manager

Bruce Hope Operations/Production Manager

If anybody has a question about anything horticulturally related, they seek Bruce for an answer. Bruce has been in the industry since graduating from CalPoly in 1980 with a degree in Environmental Horticulture. With extensive experience managing facilities for nurseries and contractors, Bruce brings a wealth of knowledge to bear. He currently manages the field operations and deliveries, making sure that stock is well cared for, and that everybody gets their plants on time. Juggling schedules like Nick ‘The Zone’ Falzone in Pushing Tin, he keeps it all in check while maintaining a cool demeanor.

Kasey Capener Sales Associate

Kasey brings more than 30 years of nursery and horticultural knowledge to share with our customers. A graduate of CalPoly in San Luis Obispo with a degree in Environmental Horticulture, she is dedicated, detail oriented, and has an unwavering focus on customer service. Throughout her career, Kasey has developed long term relationships with many of our customers, exhibits a knack for extreme sourcery, and is instrumental in compiling complex orders of high quality material.

A 30 year veteran of the nursery and landscaping industry, Jim is a California Certified Nursery Professional. His experience in retail and wholesale nurseries extends from the north to the south end of the bay area. Jim knows plants like nobody’s business. His ability to recall the most granular plant data is remarkable, whether it be character, growth habit, culture, or something arcane and very interesting. Jim also knows our growers’ strengths and is adept at tapping the best source for each plant. To top it off, his effervescent and upbeat attitude is a joy to engage.

Chris joined Sweet Lane Nursery in 2011, ditching the universe of corporate banking to focus on the real world and fun people. He takes joy in developing worthy solutions for our clients, whether it be a small residential garden or a major corporate project. Relentless in his pursuit of excellence, Chris can find what you are looking for and get it on a truck to your project tout de suite. Known for spontaneously launching into song, Chris keeps all of our spirits buoyed!

Trish joined Sweet Lane Nursery in early 2017, bringing new ideas and fresh energy to the team. Currently completing her last semester in pursuit of a degree in environmental horticulture with a focus on landscape design at Santa Rosa Junior College, Trish brings a depth of knowledge to bear in helping our clients realize their projects. An experienced and precise multi-tasker, Trish gets it done, with a smile!

What types of plant material do you sell?

We offer trees, shrubs, groundcovers, espaliers, and screening plants, including ornamental and fruiting varieties, camellias, rhododendrons, azaleas, Japanese maples, ornamental and shade trees, boxwood, large screening hedges, grasses, etc, etc, etc! Sizes range from 4" pots to 72" boxes.

Can anyone buy plants from Sweet Lane?

We provide plants to landscape professionals only. If the majority of your annual work is horticulturally or landscape related, you are welcome to source material from Sweet Lane. We are not open to the general public. Homeowners are welcome to tour the nursery when accompanied by their contractor, designer or architect.

Can Sweet Lane source all the plant material for my job?

Yes we can! Send us your list and we would be happy to prepare a quote. Our deep knowledge of which growers provide the best plant materials allows us to gather from a variety of sources, supplying your project with the overall best quality possible.

Does Sweet Lane contract-grow for future projects?

Yes, we do. Contact us to discuss your needs and schedule, and we would be happy to prepare a proposal.

May a customer pre-select plants, and, how long will you hold plant material?

We welcome customers who wish to tag and reserve material for their projects. In the absence of a contract grow agreement, we are happy to hold material for up to 2 weeks unpaid, and up to 30 days for pre-paid material. Cancellations may be subject to a re-stocking fee. Holds for periods of time longer than 30 days are subject to a 5% monthly maintenance fee. Please know, some material is not conducive to being held for long periods.

How long is Ball and Burlap material available?

B&B trees and shrubs are typically available from November through May, depending upon the weather. Boxwood is often available year-round in B&B.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, checks and credit cards (Visa / MasterCard / American Express). Although not required, customers may apply for an account.
